Letters to Officials

September 14, 2016

U.S. Senate
Washington, D.C 20510

Dear Senator,

You will soon consider S. 2848, the Water Resources Development Act of 2016.  On behalf of the more than one million members and supporters of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), I urge you to support the following amendments:

Sen. Jeff Flake’s (R-Ariz.) amendment to reduce the Army Corps of Engineers’ Low Priorities Studies and Construction budget to the President’s budget level of $1.175 billion.

Sen. Flake’s amendment to strike a section that increases the share of taxpayer money for harbor deepening projects.

Sen. Flake’s amendment to prohibit funds for the Army Corps of Engineers or the Environmental Protection Agency for beach nourishment programs except in areas with high flooding risks.

Sen. Ben Sasse’s (R-Neb.) amendment to prevent the Secretary of the Interior or the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency from entering into an agreement resolving a dispute or claim with an individual that would restrict the ability of the individual from speaking to members of Congress on any topic, unless prohibited by federal law.

Sen. Sasse’s amendment to require that non-federal partners must share no less than 30 percent of the total cost of the project.

I urge you to oppose the following amendments:

Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s (R-Alaska) amendment that would reauthorize the Denali Commission.

Sen. Thad Cochran’s (R-Miss.) amendment to expand the Yazoo Basin in Mississippi.

Sen. Cory Booker’s (D-N.J.) amendment to allow funds for the rehabilitation of a “fish passage.”

All votes on S. 2848 will be among those considered for CCAGW’s 2016 Congressional Ratings.

Sincerely,

Tom Schatz
President, CCAGW
