Citizens Against Government Waste is currently seeking qualified candidates for the following open position:

Federal Government Affairs Associate

This full-time position is expected to support the operation of the Federal Government Affairs division of Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) and its lobbying arm, the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW).

The associate will report to the vice president of policy and government affairs (VP), and support CAGW/CCAGW’s policy and advocacy team. The associate will help to coordinate all CAGW/CCAGW federal government affairs activities, including responses to requests from legislators and lobbying. The associate is expected to spend a significant amount of time on Capitol Hill promoting the organization’s initiatives and required to keep CAGW’s staff fully informed about congressional activity, especially during peak periods of the legislative session, and assist the VP with the CCAGW Political Action Committee.

This position is responsible for submitting reports to the VP and the president, developing annual congressional ratings and other publications, and assisting the VP in determining eligibility for CCAGW PAC endorsements. Two or more years of Capitol Hill or similar experience preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinate the development of CCAGW’s annual legislative plan and associated work plan.

Promote CCAGW’s legislative agenda through meetings with members of Congress and congressional staff.

Seek opportunities and respond to requests to testify before congressional committees.

Develop and supervise annual congressional ratings.

Oversee all legislative research.

Coordinate meetings between members of Congress and CCAGW staff as well as other special events.

Provide members of Congress and their staffs with information developed by CAGW and CCAGW.

Prepare remarks for press conferences and congressional hearings as directed.

Oversee federal legislative research and facilitate all federal legislative correspondence.

Write articles for CAGW/CCAGW publications and op-eds.

Execute the CAGW Policy Breakfast series.

Provide backup support to the state government affairs associate as needed.

Complete any and all other tasks as assigned by the VP or the president.
