Support Roberts-Stabenow GMO Labeling Amendment

Letters to Officials

July 7, 2016

U.S. Senate
Washington, D.C. 20510

Dear Senator,

On behalf of the more than one million members and supporters of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), I urge you to support S. 764, which includes an amendment by Senators Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) and Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) that establishes a national standard for the labeling of food products with GMOs.

This new standard will provide three alternatives for food manufacturers to label their products:  on-package labeling, a USDA symbol, or an electronic code.

Without this legislation, food manufacturers will be forced to label their products based on a patchwork quilt of state laws and regulations, which will do little to educate consumers and increase costs for families and taxpayers.

This legislation will strike a balance between reasonable regulation and information for consumers, while ensuring consistency and efficiency in the food supply chain.  All votes on S. 764 will be among those considered in CCAGW’s 2016 Congressional Ratings.

Sincerely,

Tom Schatz
President, CCAGW
