California - Support AB 62

The Honorable Cottie Petrie-Norris
Accountability and Administrative Review Committee
California State Assembly

Re: SUPPORT – AB 62 (Fong): Budget Transparency Act of 2019

Dear Assemblymember Petrie-Norris,

On behalf of the 261,287 members and supporters of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste in California, I urge you to support AB 62, the Budget Transparency Act of 2019. This legislation would improve transparency by requiring California’s annual budget be published online on an interactive, searchable, and user-friendly website.

Other attempts to improve budget transparency at the state-level have proven successful. This includes Ohio’s implementation of the Ohio Checkbook, a database that has opened the books on spending in state government and also been adopted by more than 100 municipal entities, including cities, counties, school districts, and libraries across the state.

The Budget Transparency Act of 2019 will help put California on a similar path toward budget transparency by opening the books for Californians to see how the government spends their tax dollars. Again, I urge you to support AB 62.

Sincerely,

Tom Schatz
President, CCAGW
