Vote YES on SB 1282 - Wireless Infrastructure - Virginia
State Action
Virginia House of Delegates
1000 Bank Street
Richmond, VA 23219
Dear Delegate,
On behalf of the more than 44,986 members and supporters of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste in the Commonwealth of Virginia, I urge you to support SB 1282, which would create uniform procedures for the manner in which wireless communications are approved and installed in public rights-of-way.
As the demand for data continues to skyrocket in Virginia, consumers need a more integrated wireless environment to access the Internet of Things. To support this rapid growth and the connected devices of the future, uniformity in siting and fee structures across the state is imperative.
SB 1282 would establish procedures for how wireless communications are approved by localities and installed in the public rights-of-way; institute requirements for the location of micro-wireless facilities and small cell facilities; and replace fees of general application with an annual Wireless Support Structure Public Rights-of Way Use Fee.
By streamlining the approval process, Virginia will be able to meet the demand for increased data speeds for all Virginians in a more efficient and effective manner than under the current approval and fee structures. Therefore, we urge you to support SB 1282.
Sincerely,
Tom Schatz
President, CCAGW
