Vote YES to H. Con. Res. 89 and 112 | Council For Citizens Against Government Waste

Vote YES to H. Con. Res. 89 and 112

Letters to Officials

June 9, 2016

U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Representative,

On behalf of the more than one million members and supporters of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), I urge you to support H. Con. Res. 89 and H. Con. Res. 112.  These resolutions express the sense of the Congress that President Obama’s climate agenda is burdensome, unnecessary, and costly.

H. Con. Res. 89, sponsored by House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), expresses the sense of the Congress that a carbon tax will be detrimental to the economy of the United States.  According to a May 2013 Congressional Budget Office report, a carbon tax would increase the cost to produce goods and services.  This would force taxpayers to pay higher costs for basic services, such as electricity in their home and transportation.

H. Con. Res. 112, sponsored by Rep. Charles Boustany (R-La.), conveys Congress’s opposition to President Obama’s proposed $10.25 tax on every barrel of oil.  The president proposed this tax in his fiscal year 2017 budget request to cover the costs of his proposed climate agenda.  If levied, this tax would increase the cost of gasoline while eliminating jobs and decreasing demand in the oil and gas industry.

It is critical for members of Congress to stand up and oppose President Obama’s damaging climate change agenda, and these resolutions will accomplish that goal.  All votes on H. Con. Res. 89 and H. Con. Res. 112 will be among those considered in CCAGW’s 2016 Congressional Ratings.

Sincerely,

Tom Schatz
President, CCAGW
