Director of Government Affairs

This full-time position oversees the operation of the government affairs department. The director is responsible for coordinating all government affairs activity for Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW), the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) and the CCAGW PAC. The director is expected to spend a significant amount of time on Capitol Hill promoting the organizations’ initiatives. The director is also required to keep CAGW staff fully informed about congressional activity. The director is responsible for supervising department staff, submitting reports to the vice president for policy and communications and the president, developing annual congressional ratings, and determining eligibility for CCAGW PAC endorsements. Five years or more of Capitol Hill experience preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop annual legislative plan and associated work plan.

Promote CCAGW’s legislative agenda through meetings with members of Congress and congressional staffs.

Seek opportunities and respond to requests to testify before congressional committees.

Develop and supervise annual congressional ratings.

Supervise all legislative correspondence relating to CCAGW.

Oversee all legislative research.

Coordinate meetings between members of Congress and the CCAGW president, Board of Directors, and CAGW/CCAGW members, as needed.

Provide members of Congress and their staffs information developed by CAGW and CCAGW.

Prepare and deliver remarks for press conferences and congressional hearings as directed.

Develop, update, and maintain a legislative database.

Develop and supervise the department’s annual budget.

Write articles for CAGW/CCAGW publications.

Execute the CAGW Policy Breakfast series.

Complete all other duties as assigned.
