Letters to Officials
April 15, 2015
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, D.C. 20515
Dear Representative,
You will soon vote on several commonsense bills that seek to curb abuse at the Internal Revenue Service. On behalf of the more than one million members and supporters of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), I urge you to support the following bills:
- H.R. 1104, the Fair Treatment for all Gifts Act, introduced by Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Ill.), which would permanently ensure that donations to 501(c)4, (c)5, and (c)6 organizations are not subject to the gift tax.
- H.R. 1058, the Taxpayer Bill of Rights Act, introduced by Rep. Roskam, which would ensure that all employees provide taxpayers with quality service, to pay no more than the correct amount of tax, to privacy, and the ability to challenge the IRS’s position and be heard.
- H.R. 709, the Prevent Targeting at the IRS Act, introduced by Rep. Jim Renacci (R-Ohio), which would clarify that an agent who targets individuals or groups based on their political affiliation can be terminated.
- H.R. 1152, introduced by Rep. Kenny Marchant (R-Texas), which would prohibit IRS officers and employees from using personal email accounts to conduct official business.
- H.R. 1314, introduced by Rep. Patrick Meehan (R-Pa.), which would provide for an administrative appeal relating to adverse determinations of tax-exempt status.
I urge you to support these commonsense bills. All votes on the above legislation will be among those considered in CCAGW’s 2015 Congressional Ratings.
Sincerely,
Tom Schatz
President, CCAGW
