Support H. Con. Res. 71 | Council For Citizens Against Government Waste

Support H. Con. Res. 71

Letters to Officials

October 18, 2017

U.S. Senate
Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Senator,

You are now considering H. Con. Res. 71, the fiscal year (FY) 2018 budget resolution.  On behalf of the more than one million members and supporters of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), I urge you to pass this budget resolution with reconciliation instructions so that comprehensive, pro-growth tax reform can be enacted by Congress.

On September 27, 2017, the Unified Framework for tax reform was released.  It presents an historic opportunity to unleash the economic potential of the American people and serves as a guide to the drafting and markup of legislation in the House Ways and Means and Senate Finance Committees.  If the plan is enacted, Americans will get to keep more of their own money, filing taxes will be far simpler, and small businesses will be able to boost wages and create jobs.

Along with opening the door for tax reform, H. Con. Res. 71 includes several other provisions that protect taxpayers, hold the government accountable, and promote fiscal responsibility.  The budget resolution reduces spending by $5.1 trillion, improves oversight, and allows committees to review recommendations by the Government Accountability Office to better identify waste, fraud, abuse and mismanagement in government programs.

While Congress is well-positioned to enact tax reform, that cannot occur until a budget resolution with reconciliation instructions is adopted.  CCAGW supports the FY 2018 budget resolution and urges you to vote in favor of this legislation.  All votes on H. Con. Res. 71 will be among those considered for CCAGW’s 2017 Congressional Ratings.

Sincerely,

Tom Schatz
President, CCAGW
