Pass PITFA without Delay or Amendments | Council For Citizens Against Government Waste

Pass PITFA without Delay or Amendments

Letters to Officials

November 18, 2014
U.S. Senate
Washington, D.C. 20510

Dear Senator,

On behalf of the more than one million members and supporters of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), I strongly urge you to pass H.R. 3086, the Permanent Internet Tax Freedom Act, without delay.

This legislation has wide bi-partisan support and was passed in the House of Representatives by voice vote.  The bill would make permanent the existing ban on Internet access taxes, as well as discriminatory or duplicative taxes on the Internet.  The American Action Forum has estimated that if this law is not passed and the ban made permanent, Internet users in the U.S. could be subjected to nearly $14.7 billion annually in new taxes if Internet access was taxed at the same rate that is imposed on wireless consumers.

CCAGW opposes any attempt to attach legislative language similar to the Marketplace Fairness Act to any bill containing the Permanent Internet Tax Freedom Act or an extension of the existing moratorium that expires on December 11, 2014.

I urge you to join your colleagues and act quickly and decisively to pass H.R. 3086, the Permanent Internet Tax Freedom Act, without delay or any unnecessary attachments.

Sincerely,

Tom Schatz
President, CCAGW
