Letters to Officials
May 25, 2016
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, D.C. 20515
Dear Representative,
You will soon begin voting on H.R. 5055, the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2017. On behalf of the more than one million members and supporters of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), I urge you to support the following amendments:
Rep. Markwayne Mullin’s (R-Okla.) amendment to prohibit funds from being used to propose or finalize regulatory rules with an economic impact of $100,000,000 or more between November 8, 2016 through January 20, 2017.
Rep. Ken Buck’s (R-Colo.) amendment to eliminate funding for energy subsidies, including the Energy Efficient and Renewable Energy subsidy.
Rep. Paul Gosar’s (R-Ariz.) amendment to prohibit funds from being used to execute the White House counsel’s April 15, 2009 memorandum (entitled “Reminder Regarding Document Requests”) that undermines the spirit of the Freedom of Information Act as it is observed by federal agencies.
Rep. Gosar’s amendment to defund the “Social Cost of Carbon” model, whose flawed methodology is easily manipulated to justify the administration’s job-killing regulations.
Rep. Gosar’s amendment to defund the Department of Energy’s Climate Model Development and Validation program, which is inefficient and duplicative of other climate research initiatives by the administration.
Rep. Gosar’s amendment to prohibit funds from being used for President Obama’s “21st Century Clean Transportation” plan, which includes a “fee” of $10.25 per barrel of oil to fund the $320 billion program.
I also urge you to oppose the following amendment:
Rep. Sam Farr’s (D-Calif.) amendment to strike a policy rider prohibiting funds to carry out the National Ocean Policy under President Obama’s Executive Order 13547.
All votes on H.R. 5055 will be among those considered in CCAGW’s 2016 Congressional Ratings.
Sincerely,
Tom Schatz
President, CCAGW
