CCAGW Urges the Utah Senate to Support HB 6006

State Action

Utah Senate
320 E Capitol St.
Salt Lake City, UT 84114

Dear Senator,

On behalf of the 13,718 members and supporters of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste in Utah, I urge you to support HB 6006.

The coronavirus pandemic has had a significant impact on many industries and the alcohol industry is no exception.  Many states have taken measures to ease regulations on various businesses to ensure their survival during and after the pandemic.

HB 6006 delays the expiration of the retail licenses for locations that serve alcohol to December 22, 2020 instead of September 30, 2020.  These locations include full-service restaurants, limited-service restaurants, airport lounges, on-premise banquet facilities, reception centers, resorts, and hotels.

This bill also permits alcoholic beverage licenses at international airports to change locations if needed.

The International Wines and Spirits Record (IWSR) predicts that it will take five years to recover from the pandemic.  While total alcohol sales have increased, it is still not enough to offset the financial losses.

The deregulatory measures in HB 6006 will help the alcohol industry get back on its feet.  I urge you to support this legislation.

Sincerely,

Tom Schatz
President, CCAGW
