Vote 'YES' on H. Res. 173 | Council For Citizens Against Government Waste

Vote 'YES' on H. Res. 173

Letters to Officials

May 2, 2013
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, D.C.  20515

Dear Representative:

Rep. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) has introduced H. Res. 173, the Waste Whistleblower Protection Resolution.  On behalf of the more than one million members and supporters of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), I urge you to support this legislation.

An April 9, 2013 Government Accountability Office (GAO) report identified 31 areas where agencies may be able to achieve greater efficiency or effectiveness.  Within those 31 areas, GAO identified 81 actions that the executive branch or Congress could take to reduce fragmentation, overlap, or duplication, as well as other cost savings opportunities.  H. Res. 173 would encourage federal employees to suggest ways to make sensible and efficient budget reductions within their employing department due to sequestration.  Furthermore, this resolution assures federal employees that if they have stories to tell about waste within government current law protects them from being retaliated against by their employing department.

Sequestration has created the need for federal employees in every agency to become more involved than ever in making recommendations to save money.  These individuals should be able to do so without any fear of reprisal.  H. Res. 173 would reassure taxpayers and federal workers that steps will be taken to improve government efficiency.  I urge you to support Rep. Gardner’s resolution.  All votes on H. Res. 173 will be among those considered in CCAGW’s 2013 Congressional Ratings.

Sincerely,

Tom Schatz
President, CCAGW
