Letters to Officials

May 17, 2018

U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Representative,

You will soon consider H.R. 2, the Agriculture and Nutrition Act of 2018. On behalf of the more than one million members and supporters of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), I urge you to support the following amendments to H.R. 2:

Rep. Andy Biggs’ (R-Ariz.) amendment to repeal the bioenergy subsidy programs established in title IX of the 2002 farm bill.

Rep. Jim Banks’ (R-Ind.) amendment to repeal the final rule issued by the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency and the Secretary of the Army entitled ‘‘Clean Water Rule: Definition of ‘Waters of the United States.’’’

Rep. Doug LaMalfa’s (R-Calif.) amendment to streamline the Forest Service application process required to construct broadband infrastructure on federal land.

Rep. Virginia Foxx’s (R-N.C.) amendment to modernize and reform the sugar program by removing barriers to domestic production and implementing market reforms.

Rep. Steve Russell (R-Okla.) amendment to reform the Agricultural Risk Protection act of 2000 to prohibit the Department of Agriculture (USDA) from awarding value-added agricultural product market development grants to support the marketing of beer, wine, distilled spirits, hard cider, or other alcohol products. The amendment also rescinds $8 million of the unobligated funds that were previously provided to USDA for grants.

Rep. Tom McClintock’s (R-Calif.) amendment to phase out agricultural subsidies.

Rep. Warren Davidson’s (R-Ohio) amendment to instruct USDA to distribute employment and training funds based on actual usage of the program rather than eligibility. Any unused funds would be sent back to the treasury.

All votes on these amendments will be among those considered in CCAGW’s 2018 Congressional Ratings.

Sincerely,

Tom Schatz
President, CCAGW
