CCAGW Urges Ways and Means Committee Members to Support Tax Reform 2.0

September 11, 2018

House Committee on Ways and Means
1102 Longworth HOB
Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear House Ways and Means Committee Member,

On Thursday, September 13, the Committee on Ways and Means will markup “Tax Reform 2.0,” three bills that modify and build upon the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA). On behalf of the more than one million members and supporters of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), I urge you to support these bills.

The first bill, H.R. 6760, the Protecting Family and Small Businesses Tax Cuts Act of 2018, would make the TCJA individual tax rate changes permanent. According to the Tax Foundation, this would increase long-run wages by 0.9 percent, add 1.5 million full-time jobs to the economy, and increase after-tax income for every income bracket by roughly 1.5 percent. The bill would also make permanent the state and local tax deduction $10,000 cap and the lower mortgage interest deduction cap.

The second bill, H.R. 6756, the American Innovation Act of 2018, would permit businesses to deduct start-up costs up to $20,000, making it easier to create new jobs and maintain America’s supremacy in technological innovation.

The third bill, H.R. 6757, the Family Savings Act of 2018, would create small universal savings accounts that would allow individuals to contribute up to $2,500 on an annual basis, and make withdrawals tax-free.

Again, I urge your support for these bills.

Sincerely,

Tom Schatz
President, CCAGW
