Letters to Officials

August 6, 2022

U.S. Senate
Washington, D.C. 20510

Dear Senator,

You will soon be considering H.R. 5376, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of 2022, which will raise taxes, increase spending, and prolong both inflation and the recession.  On behalf of the more than one million members and supporters of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), I urge you to oppose this bill.

I urge you to support the following motions to commit (MTC):

MTC #31, offered by Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), a motion to commit to the Finance Committee with instructions to protect long-term investments in medical research.

MTC #32, offered by Sen. Tillis, a motion to commit to the Health, Education Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee with instructions to ensure that people who like their health insurance can keep it.

MTC #38, offered by Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), a motion to commit to the Finance Committee with instructions to reallocate $80 billion in IRS funding to provide tax relief.

MTC #59, offered by Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.), a motion to commit to the Finance Committee with instructions to ensure the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) improves privacy protections and stops illegal disclosures.

MTC #64, offered by Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), a motion to commit to the Judiciary Committee with instructions to prevent Department of Justice fines from going to anyone but parties to the case or the U.S.

Thank you for your consideration of our views on the IRA.  All votes related to the Inflation Reduction Act may be among those considered as part of CCAGW’s 2022 Congressional Ratings.

Sincerely,
Tom Schatz
President, CCAGW
