CCAGW Urges House Judiciary Committee to Support H.R. 4130, the American Music Fairness Act
Letters to Officials
December 6, 2022
House Judiciary Committee
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, D.C. 20515
Dear Representative,
It is my understanding that you will soon consider H.R. 4130, the American Music Fairness Act (AMFA) during a full committee markup. On behalf of the more than one million members and supporters of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), I strongly urge you to support this legislation.
On June 8, 2022, CCAGW joined five other organizations in signing the attached letter supporting the AMFA. Based on the intellectual property (IP) rights protections found in Article I, Section 8, Clause 8 of the Constitution, all IP owners should receive fair compensation for their work. H.R. 4130 would provide a balanced appropriate to royalty compensation for music played on terrestrial radio, by treating terrestrial broadcast of this work the same as it is treated when played on streaming platforms, or satellite platforms.
Again, I strongly urge to you address the inequities of the current royalty reimbursement system and report H.R. 4130 favorably out of committee. All votes relating to H.R. 4130, the American Music Fairness Act will be among those considered for CCAGW’s 2022 Congressional Ratings.
Sincerely,
Tom Schatz
President, CCAGW
