(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) President Tom Schatz released the following statement condemning the Senate’s passage of S. J. Res. 52, a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution that would nullify the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Restoring Internet Freedom Order (RIFO):

“Today’s Senate vote was a slap in the face to anyone who believes in privacy rights, twenty-first century innovation, and online freedom.  In 2015, the FCC imposed antiquated, Depression-era regulations on the internet.  This action superseded nearly 20 years of light touch regulation that allowed the internet to flourish.  That mistake was corrected on December 14, 2017, when the FCC adopted the RIFO.  By acting to undo the RIFO, the Senate is sending a clear message that it would rather the internet be controlled by government bureaucrats instead of citizens and pioneers.  We urge the House to reject the CRA and preserve internet freedom for all.”
