CCAGW Urges Senate to Support S. Con. Res. 43 | Council For Citizens Against Government Waste

CCAGW Urges Senate to Support S. Con. Res. 43

Letters to Officials

July 20, 202

U.S. Senate
Washington, D.C. 20510

Dear Senator,

You will soon be considering Sen. Mike Braun’s (R-Ind.) budget resolution, S. Con. Res. 43.  On behalf of the more than one million members and supporters of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), I urge you to vote in favor of this resolution.

The national debt is now greater than $30 trillion, inflation is at a 40-year high, and gas prices hit a record amount in June.  A significant precipitating cause of the debt, inflation, and high prices for everything is the spending approved by Congress over the past several years, particularly the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act.  To address this mounting debt and persistent inflation, Congress must reduce spending, reform the budget process, and set the government on a path to a balanced budget.

            S. Con. Res. 43 would balance the budget within 10 years without raising taxes or creating new taxes.  It would cap the amount of federal spending as a percentage of gross domestic product and withhold pay for members of Congress until they fulfilled their basic duty to complete an annual budget and pass all required appropriations bills on time.  The budget resolution would eliminate corrupt, costly, and inequitable earmarks.  It would also create a commission to reform Social Security and Medicare to ensure that these programs remain solvent and able to serve Americans into the future.

            S. Con. Res. 43 is a bold and critical attempt to rein in government spending and reform the appropriations and budget processes.  For these reasons, I urge you to vote in favor of the resolution when it is considered on the floor of the Senate.  All votes related to S. Con. Res. 43 may be among those considered as part of CCAGW’s 2022 Congressional Ratings.

Sincerely,
Tom Schatz
President, CCAGW
